Access

A 6-foot wide hard-surfaced deck will take you from the handicap parking lot to a large platform on the beach with benches. This is removed in the winter, but is in place during the summer and fall season. On the right side of the Cannery, there is a boardwalk that takes you from the parking lot to the beach. Once the boardwalk ends, you will be on soft sand. The beach is wide and sandy. If you want to get even closer to the water, a beach wheelchair is available in the Cannery, which is open from 11:00 AM to 5:00 PM from Memorial Day through Labor Day. Ask the volunteer working at the Cannery.

More about Glen Haven Beach

The village of Glen Haven has a lot of interesting things to explore. The big red Cannery building used to be located right next to the Glen Haven dock. They canned fruit here and shipped the canned goods to market. The Cannery is now a museum of lake Michigan boats. The Great Lakes fishing tug, Aloha, sits near the Cannery and has a nice boardwalk viewing platform. The General Store in the village is open in the summer and there is a working blacksmith shop in the village.
