This mobile visitor center has more interactive equipment including skulls, pelts and models thanks to the Friends’ partnership with the park interpretive team.
Piping Plover Signage
The Friends and NPS continue to combine efforts on a program to preserve and protect the threatened Piping Plover found in Sleeping Bear Dunes. Through the support of generous donors, the Friends were able to install signs about the Plovers and what steps visitors can take to help protect them at Peterson and Tiesma Beaches.
Dark Sky Party
Funding for the Park’s popular Dark Sky Parties with the Grand Traverse Astronomical Society is also provided by the Friends. This popular program continues to grow and is one of the reasons the Friends and the Park are seeking Dark Sky Certification.
