Flower | Flower heads are usually single but may have as many as 3 flowers on top of the stem. Flowers are pink to red and may be as large as 2″. Stiff yellow-tipped spines cover the flower bracts. Only a few flowers per plant. |
Leaf | Leaves are deeply cut and the lobes are coarsely toothed and tipped with a sharp pointed spine. Leaf margins are edged with shorter, prickly spines. Leaves are wooly on the underside. |
