Volunteer Job Descriptions

Becoming a Friend of Sleeping Bear Dunes is a great way to learn about the park while contributing to help preserve its natural resources. As a Friend, you will also have opportunities to interact with visitors throughout the park. In 2020, our volunteers dedicated over 11,000 hours to help maintain trails and beaches, facilitate educational exhibits, as well as purchase and run equipment that helps enhance and maintain the park.

Below, the job descriptions for specific positions with the Friends. Most of these jobs are currently filled, but we regularly recruit for assistants and trainees for each position. We are a high-functioning all-volunteer organization. Staff turnover and vacation absences are expected, so we strive to have more than one person capable of doing each job for backup and succession planning.

We are an All-Volunteer Organization, and we need your help! All of our volunteers are registered volunteers with Sleeping Bear Dunes National Lakeshore. The 2024 Volunteer Handbook is a resource for all volunteers.
