SBHT-Ambassadors-200x267If you are looking for a way to help keep the trail beautiful and meet a lot of nice people, while enjoying a relaxing walk or bike ride, you’ll want to learn more about the Trail Ambassador program. Many of our volunteers are families or groups of friends who enjoy biking or walking the trail together. It’s simple, easy, and fun.

Orientation and training will begin at 1:00 PM. Our Trail Ambassadors ride or walk the trail, so they can be available to assist trail users and answer questions. Ambassadors are also our eyes and ears on the trail. They report any trail problems to our Trail Crew.

Come and learn about the new section of trail built last year and plans for building the next section to CR-651. We will also provide more information about programs on the trail like our “Catch ’em doing something RIGHT” program. We will talk about safety issues and trail rules. Meet the new Superintendent of Sleeping Bear Dunes!

Now that the trail is getting longer, we can use even more Ambassadors, so encourage your friends, family, and neighbors to come to this meeting and join up! Trail Ambassadors receive an annual pass to the National Lakeshore.

Trail Ambassador volunteers commit to being on the trail at least twice each month during the spring, summer, and fall, but most of our volunteers are on the trail several times a week. Ambassadors are a resource for our visitors by being available to answer questions and give directions. They also report problems with the trail like erosion or down trees to the Trail Crew, a group of Trail Ambassadors who do maintenance work on the trail and groom it for skiing in the winter. Visitors have told us that they like having our Trail Ambassadors on the trail. It adds a sense of safety and friendliness that other trails don’t have.
